synopsis
Under the Desert Sun tells the story of Richard and Rachel Winston, a once vibrant, loving couple torn apart by selfishness and tragedy. Rachel, a wife who put her goals on the back burner for her husband. Richard, a sports agent whose career is sky rocketing. Together, a couple unable to find balance in their lives. Just when it seemed that they could handle each other’s burdens no longer, they wake to find themselves stranded together miles from civilization in the hot, jagged California desert. With them is Dez, a rowdy, bitter young teen anxious to get back to her life, and Don, a mentally challenged young man, uncomfortable around strangers and even more so outside his normal environment. The group must struggle against this deadly setting as they make their way back to the comforts of their old lives. Will Richard and Rachel live to reconcile or will the heat rip them apart?

filmmaker's note
Under the Desert Sun is at its heart a film about character. Right from the beginning, I set out to write a simple movie about flawed human beings given a second chance to right their wrongs. As the story developed, it became focused around one relationship: two people torn apart by their situation and their choices, with a final opportunity for redemption. I have never in my life experienced a challenge quite like this massive undertaking, nor have I had more fun. Everyone involved has worked so hard to bring the words on the page to life on the screen. We were very fortunate to surround ourselves with creative people willing to go above and beyond to bring this to completion. All independent filmmaking comes with challenges, but when you decide to work with a micro budget to produce a complete feature it is beyond a difficult task. My producer and I are continuously amazed by what we were able to pull off. None of it would have been possible with out the incredible hard work of the entire cast and crew often times doing this for no more than the love a filmmaking and wanting us to be successful. I hope everyone enjoys watching the film as much as we all loved making it.
